Our Target Goals for 2013

Plan for the future  Our school will benefit from training in the workshop format and use of commentary for writing and writing across the curriculum.  Use Shurley English to strengthen the needs of students in the area of writing conventions.  Guided reading, guided math and writing across the curriculum  Continue using goals/benchmarks assessments

Math Problem Solving Teachers will teach, use and post math vocabulary with math lessons. Teachers will create formative and summative assessments aligned to current units of instruction. Bi-weekly Math Curriculum Meetings to examine grade level strand weakness, create benchmarks.

Reading Comprehension  Teachers will teach guided reading using the Reader’s Workshop format.  Teachers will integrate math, science and social studies standards into reading lessons.  The teachers will regularly analyze student work based on the standards to monitor progress of the students. Progress made on standards based assessments, county benchmarks, CRCT and the writing assessments will also be used as indicators.

Conclusion  After analyzing data from 2012 CRCT scores and 2012 Writing Assessment scores, it has be decided that attention on these skills is a priority. While students showed gains in reading, language arts and math, these areas will continue to remain in focus as state demands increase. By increasing students proficiency in reading and writing we can increase their level of understanding of all subjects.
