December 2014Do Good in the World1 The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Do Good In The World Presented by PDG Mike Montgomery

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World District Rotarians, 53 clubs King Co. + South Snohomish Co. Contributed $489,000 to the Annual Programs Fund of TRF

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World3 This past July… The Rotary Foundation transferred half of that $489,000 to our District Designated Fund (DDF) for the Rotary Year. $244,500 + residual ≈ $247,000 DDF The other half goes to the World Fund of TRF

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World4 District Governor & Finance Committee determine how to apply the $247,000 of DDF: For % ($123,500) goes to matching funds for Global Grant projects (> $30,000 budgets + Focus Areas) 50% ($123,500) goes to fund the District Grant (block grant) for projects with budgets < $30,000

December 2014 Do Good in the World5 The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International … and… your Club’s Foundation Partners, not competitors! They complement each other!

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World6 Great Idea -- $70,000 budget Water & Sanitation Project – Ethiopia University District - $10,000 Edmonds Daybreakers - $ 5,000 $20,100 Lynnwood - $ 5,000 cash Addis Abba Sunrise - $ 100

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World7 Great Idea with $70,000 budget Water & Sanitation Project – Ethiopia 5030 Clubs Ethiopia D-5030 $20,000 $100 $20,000 CASH CASH DDF So far: $40,100 MATCH

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World8 $70,000 Water & Sanitation Project – Ethiopia 5030 clubs + Ethiopia + D-5030’s DDF contribute $100 cash Matches club cash 1:1 $20,000 cash $20,000 DDF + TRF (World Fund) = Matches District DDF 1:1 = $20,000 Matches all club cash 0.5:1 = $10,050 Total: $70,150 $50,050 comes from TRF = 71% of project budget

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World9 Look at it another way… WITHOUT TRF 5030 Clubs Others D-5030TRF $20,000 $100$20,000$20,000 DDF 1:1 CASH CASH DDF $10,000 CASH.5:1 $ 50 CASH.5:1 Now… : $20,100

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World10 “But we want to work locally & help our own community!”

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World11 “But we want to work locally & help our own community!” Isn’t that EXACTLY what the Rotary clubs in Antigua, Chile, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Uganda, Zaire and elsewhere want? That’s what The Rotary Foundation was designed to do!

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World12 In 2003 the District Simplified Grant (DSG) program enabled D-5030 to draw 30% of its DDF to fund local and international projects: D-5030 received a DSG of $49,900 each year for 10 years – through 2013 – exclusively for LOCAL projects. That’s $499,000 in Rotary Foundation funds augmenting club foundation funds directed to LOCAL community projects.

The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International December 2014Do Good In The World13 In 2014, District Simplified Grants were replaced with the District Grant, a block grant of up to 50% of DDF, to fund local or international service projects. The Rotary Foundation enables your Rotary club and clubs the world over – to do good in their world!

December 2014Do Good in the World14 The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Annual Programs Fund Source: Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) Sustaining Members Paul Harris Society Recognition: Paul Harris Fellow

December 2014Do Good In The World15 Every Rotarian Every Year Sustaining Member = $100/ year (= $ 8.34 / month) Paul Harris Society = $1,000/ year (= $ 83.34/ month) Use Rotary Direct * * Only contributions to “SHARE” will apply to DDF or count toward EREY!

Points to consider… December 2014Do Good In The World16 Rotary clubs in Antigua, Chile, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Uganda, Zaire and elsewhere do not have access to your club’s foundation. Every Rotary club on earth has ready access to The Rotary Foundation. Without TRF matching funds, most humanitarian projects would not get off the ground! (68.5% of project budget)

When We Support The Rotary Foundation… December 2014Do Good In The World17 We significantly increase funds available to do good in this community. We significantly increase funds available to do good internationally. We absolutely enable Rotary International’s reason for being!
