NEW FAMILY, NEW CHILD? EARLY CHILDHOOD AND FAMILY TODAY IN EUROPE   LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAMMEBarcelone 13th – 16 th February 2012 PRESENTATION OF ROSA SENSAT

CONTEXT  Catalonia is a region with a historical reality, language and culture particularly in the interior of Spain. It has 7 million inhabitants There are two official languages: Catalan (language of the territory) and Spanish (state language)

HISTORY OF EDUCATION  The educational level, Catalonia was a very important fact in the early twentieth century, a remarkable network of public schools, and a significant dialogue with Europe. With Franco, all was removed. With the restoration of democracy, recovers the administration of the Generalitat of Catalonia which assumes responsability in education.

REALITY OF YOUR COUNTRY  Economically, Catalonia is a major economic power within the borders of Spain has been the industry (textiles, construction, etc...) up to half of the twentieth century the service sector (tourism, etc...) in this early twenty-first century. There was a significant immigration flow in two stages: in the middle of the twentieth century, with people of other regions of Spain, and from the end of the twentieth century, with an arrival of people from different countries. Today the rate of immigration in Catalonia is 15%.

STRUCTURES  The education system in Catalnya: 0- 3 years, is not required, nor free. The responsibilities are delegated to Councils and is funded equally between Government, Councils and families  From 3 to 6 years, is not required but is free. Responsibility of the Government.  From 6 to 16 years free and required. 6 to 11 years in primary school, and from 12 to 16 in high school. From 16 to 18, high school or professional traning

TRAINING  There are two profiles to work as professionals with children 0 to 6 years:  Teacher. University degree in 4 years (new plan Bologna) Specialization Master of Early Childhood Education. With this qualification you can work with children from 0 to 11 years.  - TEI. Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Higher Level Training. This qualification can only work with children from 0 to 3 years.

CONTINUED TRAINING CONTINUED TRAINING  The training is not mandatory and is organized by universities, from Educational Resource Centres and from the movements of educational reform.

ASSOCIATION ROSA SENSAT  Rosa Sensat is a teachers' association, a Movement for Pedagogical Renovation that works for the common interest of improving education. Aims  The dissemination of pedagogical theories and practices which aim at the global development of children and are deeply rooted in the respect for the child's personality and his freedom, and the promotion of the child's active participation in his own learning process.  The on-going training of teachers, grounded both on experimentation and in theory, and developed through individual and collective reflection.  The on-going training of teachers, grounded both on experimentation and in theory, and developed through individual and collective reflection.  The pursue of a public and democratic school, deeply inbred in the country's reality, with all its members, teachers, families and students actively engaged on its daily management l and on the definition of its pedagogical line

Rosa Sensat has nearly 1500 members, with 500 people working in the various working groups and councils, and 25 workers.

SOURCES OF FUNDING SOURCES OF FUNDING Our Association received only 30,89% of publics resources in 2010 In 2012 this proportion has dropped to approximately 23%
