Community Service Habitat For Humanity Meghan Reed

Community Service  Community service is important to me because I like giving back to my community.  It also makes me feel good about myself and I like to help people in any way possible.

Mission Statement To work in partnership with people in need. To assist and provide hope to individuals and families. To create stable neighborhoods and communities with God’s people in Valdosta and Lowndes County. To eliminate poverty housing in our lifetime.

Habitat for Humanity  I am the treasurer of the VSU Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.  We hold monthly meetings and we go to builds as an organization once a month.  Taking a leadership position has helped me become involved in my new community.

 Habitat for Humanity builds houses for families in need, but in order for the families to receive a house they have to achieve a certain number of service hours with Habitat for Humanity.

 When I have been at the builds we have put the frame for the roof on the house.

 The second build that I participated in we put the siding paper around the house and put up some of the walls on the inside of the house.

 The last build that we did for the year was my favorite. We were up on the roof the whole day putting shingles on the roof.

 I could not have made better choice then to join Habitat for Humanity.  It has helped me become more involved in my community and it has made me want to help more.  I Habitat!!!!
