The Piano

Scene 1 Sitting alone in the darkness, the old man sat behind the ancient grand piano, while thinking about his long lost wife, Elizabeth. Then, the graceful sound of the piano’s music filled the air like a cloud. The depressed man’s head thought of Elizabeth like a angel gliding towards him. The calming note of the piano drifted into his mournful mind, relaxing him throughout his body. His rough hands touch the keys carefully without concentrating. I wish Elizabeth was still here. I miss her so much.

Scene 2 A strange spirit entered the room, giving off a ghostly light that fills the room with a thin, white mist. Approaching silently, the memory of Geoff’s past perched on a dusty stool gracefully. A see- through figure joined Geoff behind the well-polished grand piano. The piano sensed an extra finger touch it’s delicate keys, letting it’s melancholy tune flood out into the atmosphere. Realising someone was there the man turned and saw Elizabeth, his loving wife, sitting next to him. Elizabeth! Where have you been? I’ve missed you so much. I have always been with you…

Scene 3 Although Geoff was strong and brave, a memory of his friend of his friend upset him as blue as the crashing, turquoise sea. Memories rushed past him, thinking of the time of the war. While turning round the corner, the courageous soldier raised his lethal gun; Bang! A deadly bullet sank into his punctured heart; a river of blood trickled down his stained, army uniform. Spirit left the man empty; Nothing can heal emptiness. As Geoff knelt down onto the blooded ground, he snuggled closely into his dead friend, clasping his sweaty hands like holding a cuddly toy. Freezing like an icicle, a shiver ran down his spine. Be careful! Please don’t leave me, friend.

Scene 4 Dreaming and wishing, happiness floated between a gift of joy and the old dressed, little boy; also known as Geoff years ago. A smile as warm as the sun spread across his face like butter. Opening the present like treasure flew over him with excitement. Jumping excitedly around the room, Geoff, the little boy, clambered on his new,, wooden horse. A gift! Thankyou very much!

Scene 5 Galloping round on his wooden horse, Geoff (as a little boy) circled the shiny Grand piano. Excitedly hopping around the illuminated room, the boy’s smile widened with glee. The piano’s secret eyes watched silently at Geoff’s young modern relation expressed at his feelings to the wonderful world. I’m having the best time of my life with this horse!

Scene 6 Dropping the sensational present, his grandson climbed up rapidly onto the sooty chair. Pressing the piano’s ancient keys, the pair released the very, last note of the depressing song of the past. As the melody had stopped, they turned with brightness, a shining smile spread between both of them. Thanks Grandad!
