Presentation transcript:

Good readers connect what they already know to what they encounter in texts. They draw on their personal experiences (text-to-self connections), their knowledge of the world (text-to-world connections) and their previous experiences with texts (text- to-text connections). Children make personal connections with the text by using their schema (background knowledge).

There are three main types of connections we make while reading text. They draw on their personal experiences (text-to-self connections), their knowledge of the world (text-to-world connections) and their previous experiences with texts (text- to-text connections).

Text-to-Self (T-S) Good readers make personal connections to a story. It helps them understand how the characters feel and makes them understand the book better!

Text-to-World (T-W) Refers to connections made between a text being read and something that occurs in the world.

Lets parctice! What did you read about in this selection that reminded you of a place you have visited or learned about? Would you prefer to go rock climbing or hang gliding? Why? What plants or animals did you learn about from reading this selection?
