Updated Overview of Run II Upgrade Plan Beam Instrumentation Bob Webber Run II Luminosity Upgrade Review February 2004

Updated Overview of Instrumentation - DoE Run II Review - February Webber 2 Recommendations and ScoreCard From July  T5: Install and commission the planned diagnostics upgrades in the A1 transfer line as soon as possible.  The planned upgrades were installed during the Sept.-Nov. shutdown and are in the process of being commisioned. –BPM signal strength was increased and timing sensitivity reduced –Multi-wire profile monitors upgraded  T6: Commission the transverse feedback systems as soon as possible.  This work is in progress. Horizontal and vertical dampers have been installed and are in the process of being commissioned. –Instability dampers are operational –Injection damper high power amplifiers are received and installed; awaiting beam studies time for system commissioning

Updated Overview of Instrumentation - DoE Run II Review - February Webber 3 Recommendations and ScoreCard From July  T12: Expedite the construction and installation of the Tevatron BPM electronics as much as possible.  ID1: Develop specifications and requirements for measuring anti-proton orbits during routine Tevatron operation and include the capability to make such measurements in the Tevatron beam position monitoring system. The specifications and requirements should be complete by September 1, 2003 –Requirements review completed in September 22, 2003 (see Tevatron Beam Position Monitor Upgrade Requirements, Beams Document 554-v4) –Technology choice review on completed December 16, 2003 –Major components (VME CPUs, digital receiver boards, VME crates) are now in hands of procurement dept. –Tunnel pbar cabling work was done during Fall shutdown –Detailed system hardware and software design in progress –Anticipate first production system installed in August –Two BPM talks in Tevatron breakout

Updated Overview of Instrumentation - DoE Run II Review - February Webber 4 Other Run II Instrumentation Progress Since July  Successful completion of Recycler BPM system  Recycler BPM electrode picoammeter system for vacuum measurement installed (system design and coordination by Inst. Dept.)  Successful commissioning of Main Injector 2.5MHz BLT  MI60 instrumentation devices moved to create space for NUMI extraction kickers  Main Injector Longitudinal Dampers now operational on pbar acceleration cycles  Improved beamline current monitor integrators installed  New, higher-resolution data acquisition systems implemented for DC beam current monitors in MI, Recycler, and Tevatron  Improvements to TeV synch light monitor  TeV pbar BPM signal cables prepared during shutdown  Improvements to Tevatron SBD
