Topic: Excretory System Aim: Describe parts & functions of the Excretory System.
Function Removal of metabolic (cellular) wastes from the body
Metabolic wastes: –CO 2, H 2 0, salt, nitrogenous wastes (urea)
PARTS OF THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Lungs Excrete CO 2 & H 2 O vapor CO 2 & H 2 0 vapor
Skin Excrete urea, salt & water in sweat (perspiration)
Temperature regulation –Evaporation of sweat from skin cools body Maindex
Liver Produces UREA –Released into blood and then moves to kidneys
Detoxification = waste products, toxins, and drugs removed from the blood
Kidneys a. Filter wastes from blood
b. Maintains water balance in body c. Produces urine
Did you know… About 440 gallons of blood flow through the kidneys each and every day! If you eat a lot of red beets, your urine will actually be colored red. The average person passes 9,202 gallons of urine in his/her lifetime. That’s enough to fill 315 bathtubs.
Urinary System
Kidneys Blood filtered Urine produced
Ureters Transport urine from kidneys to bladder
Urinary Bladder Muscular organ that stores urine
Urethra Tube that leads urine out of the body
