Membership in the United Methodist Church

What do you expect out of this workshop?

Questions to ponder in this workshop 1.Who can be a member of the United Methodist Church? 2.What is the meaning of membership? 3.Do you have to be baptized to become a member? 4.How many types of membership in the United Methodist Church? 5.What consider a person legal for membership status? 6.Can I transfer my membership from another church? 7.What are the steps to become a member? 8.How is membership terminated?

The Vows: What is the overall meaning and purpose for these vows? These membership vows express God’s call to discipleship and our acceptance and commitment An acceptance and commitment to grow in grace going on to perfection A serious undertaking and a life of discipline A life centered in Jesus Christ—His life and mission (a vocation for Jesus Christ) Covenant people—to God and one another in the Body of Christ (1 Peter 2:9-10)

The Significance of each vow Our Baptismal Vows/Repentance Vows 1.Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin? 2.Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, put your whole trust in grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the Church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations and races?
