Human Biology Project Noise Pollution

What is noise pollution? Annoying and potentially harmful environmental noise Any unwanted man-made sound that penetrates the environment is noise pollution. In general noise pollution refers to any noise irritating to one's ear which comes from an external source.

Causes of Noise Pollution Neighbourhood noise e.g. mahjong, karaoke Industrial and commercial noise e.g. factory machines, construction project Traffic noise e.g. vehicles, aircraft   Sources of noise

Examples of causing the noise pollution        Examples of causing the noise pollution

Effects to personal health loud or sustained noise can damage hearing (temporary or permanent deafness) mental stress and high blood pressure disturbance of work and schooling activates the nervous system, causes the muscles to tense and the heart rate and respiratory rate to increase

Effects of noise on human

Effects to the environment Noise may damage the nervous system of birds. In 15 April,2005, 15 birds in Hubei suddenly fell to the ground. After scientific investigation, it proved that noise damaged their nervous system and they lost the balance. The birds that directly fell on the ground

Existing measures for controlling the pollution The government have set up laws to control the generation of noise Build noise barriers along roads and railways Setting time limits for pilling and drilling Installation of double-glazed windows and air-conditioners in schools seriously affected by noise Better land use zoning

Construction of noise barriers   The relocation of the airport from Kowloon City to Chek Lap Kok is an example of better landuse
