Proposal of ID Resolution Protocol Standard for Multimedia Information Access Services Triggered by Tag-Based Identification Noboru Koshizuka and Youichi Takashima YRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory, TTC, Japan

Objective of this contribution ■The main objective of this contribution is to propose the outline of ID resolution protocols (H.IDresolution) for “Multimedia Information Accessing Services Triggered by Tag-Based Identification” which will be proposed as a draft recommendation to SG16.

Definition: ID Resolution ■ID resolution is a process of translating or resolving an ID into an address. ID Address For example… 0x ID Resolution

Why is “ID resolution” required? ■Tag is so small and poor that it cannot contain full multimedia data, and also even a full address of multimedia data access. The tag can contain short ID code, and ID resolution system translates the short ID code into long access information such as URLs of multimedia information. ■Data association between the tag and multimedia information will change dynamically. To update the information stored in the tag is difficult. – Also, we cannot update the information carried by read-only tags such as barcodes, 2D barcodes, and Read only RFID tags. So, ID resolution realizes the dynamic data association between static ID code in a tag and multimedia information addresses.

Requirements ■ID Code issues H.IDresolution should be able to resolve ID codes defined by H.IDcode. ■Functional issues Multiple functions should be able to be associated to one-code Dynamic data association with ID code Distributed database management – Some ID code areas are allocated to some organization, the organization should be able to manage the ID resolution service of the allocated ID code area. ■Harmonization issues From the view of commercial market, H.IDresolution should support major ID resolution protocols in the world. – e.g. DNS, Ubiquitous ID, … Existing local ID code resolution protocol specially for some specific ID code scheme should be able to be reused. – e.g. ID resolution protocol for ISBN, or…

Solution ■We have two major solutions and both have already been proposed as an ID resolution protocol in SG16 1.DNS-based resolution protocol proposed by ADV- 3113/WP2/SG16. (Mode A) 2.Resolution protocol of Ubiquitous ID Center proposed by C216/SG16. (Mode B)

Solution ■Double standard is a good solution. ■Both resolution services must support OID resolution. ■Local ID resolution is recommended to be supported by either of the two resolution services.

General ID Resolution Process ID Resolution Mode1 ID Resolution Mode2 OID for ID_A ID_A Special IRS for ID_A Binary format of OID FQDN format of OID OID for ID_A IRS Mode1 [AVD-3368] IRS Mode2 [SG16-C214-E, AVD-3342]

Special Resolution Process for the Basic MID Codes Basic MID code (mCode, ucode) ID Resolution Mode1 ID Resolution Mode2 IRS Mode 1 [AVD-3368] IRS Mode 2 [SG16-C214-E, AVD-3342] More or equal one interaction Binary format FQDN format ! For only a few number of MID standard code system, ID terminal can preserve the IRS addresses and can omit the OID resolution step. For other code systems, the same thing is possible. More or equal one interaction
