Current Status of Noise Regulation Review in Japan Ministry of the Environment, JAPAN Informal document GRB (55th GRB, 7-9 February 2012, agenda item 8)

The Expert Committee on Motor Vehicle Noise has been discussing and concludes the review of Motorcycle Noise Regulation and the introduction of Tyre Rolling Noise Regulation. The Expert Committee will report to the Central Environment Council and the Council report will be issued to the Minister of the Environment in April Motorcycle Noise (New Types) R41-04 acceleration test method and limit values will be introduced instead of the current acceleration test method and the current limit values R41-04 ASEP will be introduced Entry-into-force date is by 2014 Constant Speed Noise Regulation will be abolished

2. Tyre Rolling Noise R tyre rolling noise test method and limit values will be introduced Entry-into-force date is still discussed 3. Future Works (After April 2012) After the framework of Tyre Rolling Noise Regulation is determined, Entry-into-force date will be determined. Introduction of R51-03 acceleration test method and limit values, as well as the abolishment of 4-wheeler Constant Speed Noise Regulation will be discussed RESS Noise Regulations including acceleration test method and limit values will be reviewed
