Swimming Upstream: God’s Kingdom and Popular Culture Session Eighteen - A Final Current theBridge Community Church

Busyness ✦ The current of busyness drives us to live lives that are unhealthy, unsustainable, and out-of-balance. ✦ In the rush of busyness our priorities get realigned (distraction) and we are incrementally worn down (fatigue).

Interesting... ✦ Satan doesn’t care if we do lots of stuff - actually, he prefers it.

Time ✦ Two of the best uses of time are waiting on God and listening for His voice.

Isaiah 40:28, 29 (ESV) ✦ “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.”

Isaiah 40:30,31 (ESV) ✦ “Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Waiting on God provides... ✦...restoration - “renew their strength” ✦...perspective - “mount up with wings like eagles” ✦...endurance - “run and not be weary” “walk and not faint”

Psalm 143:8 (ESV) ✦ “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”

Listening ✦ Listening to God gives direction for our lives.

The Importance of Pace ✦ If we want to know what the Lord is saying, if we want to abide in His peace, we MUST slow down.
