What are raw materials used to make Glass? The raw materials used to make glass are limestone, sand and soda ash.

Where do the raw materials come from? In fact all of these thing come from the earth! Pretty amazing don’t you think.

How are the raw materials moved from the earth? Limestone, sand and soda ash, the raw materials used to make glass are all mined from the earth. They are mined by human using equipment such as: tractors and diggers. All these materials are found all over the world.

How are they transported to the processing site? They are taken to the processing site by truck or trains.( When they are made into glass).

What happens to them at the factory? Stage 1: fine sand is mixed in a machine with chemicals, this will help make the sand melt faster. Stage 2: the sand that has been mixed with chemicals is fired inside a furnace until it melts. It is now molten glass. Stage 3: molten glass is taken out of the furnace and moulded into glass products.

What products are made from glass. All sorts of products are made from glass: these include mugs, jars, bottles, windows, light bulbs, glass clocks, drinking glasses, screens, vases and much more!

What happens at the end? Stage 1: used glass, is collected from recycling bins left on the curbside. Stage 2: glass is separated into pure streams of clear, green and brown glass. Stage 3: glass is crushed into small pieces called cullet. Cullet is then washed to remove labels and food. Stage 4: Cullet is fired in a furnace with new sand. Stage 5: molten glass is made into new glass products

What effect does the creation of glass have on the environment Taking sand from beaches destroys animals habitats Glass is made from sand. When you take sand from beaches you destroy animal’s habitats. When you recycle glass you save the habitats of animals, such
