Happy Birthday UC Cooperative Extension! For 100 years, UC Cooperative Extension advisors and specialists have worked with communities across the state to solve economic, agricultural, natural resource, youth development, and nutrition issues.

A Celebration of Science and Service UC Cooperative Extension in California 1869: College of California & Agricultural, Mining, and Mechanical Arts College combine to create the University of California in Berkeley 1906: Opening of the University of California Farm in Davisville (later to become UC Davis) 1907: Riverside Citrus Experiment Station opens (later to become UC Riverside) 1913: Humboldt County places California’s first farm advisor, Andrew Hansen Christiansen 1914: Congress passes the Smith-Lever Act making funds available for extension work 1915: UC Agricultural Extension Service (later UC Cooperative Extension) places 4 more advisors
