PS.2b Compounds

Compounds are made of 2 or more kinds of atoms which combine in a specific ratio.

--A molecule is the smallest unit of a compound.

--Its atoms are chemically bonded so that the molecule does not behave like the elements which make it up.

--Its abbreviation is called a formula.

--Its abbreviation is called a formula. --Example: The smallest unit of water is made of 2 atoms of hydrogen and 1 atom of oxygen.

Examples of compounds:

Organic compounds are a special type of compounds. They all contain carbon.
