THEN China has always treated girls differently to boys. There was the traditional feet binding where they would bound a baby girl’s feet and they would have to live with their feet tightly bound. Men thought it was attractive but the girls could hardly walk.

NOW The traditional foot binding does not exist anymore as it is illegal.

THEN 100 years ago was the Qing dynasty. They were under the power of Puyi, the last emperor. He took the throne at the age of two. In these times girls did not have many opportunities.

Now Today they are under the power of the government. They are governed by the Communist Party of China. There are three main parts of their government. The president who is Hujin Tauo, the National people’s Congress and the state council. Now that they are under the power of the government girls have more opportunities.
