What is it? Why are we doing it? How are we doing it?

What is an ORCID? Started as Open Researcher and Contributor ID (but now just ORCID). 16 digit number; groups of 4 digits. Controlled by researcher. Can suppress select data elements except the ORCID itself. Include with new publications to unambiguously identify the author. (e.g., Bell, D.is NOT Dorothy Bell or David Bell.)

The UCLA Library’s Role Web site feature to link ORCIDs with UID. Part of a suite of services to faculty. Main objective: link University ID (UID) to ORCID. Provide UID and ORCID to: Opus CDL’s Publications Management System Share Drupal module with other institutions. Bulk assignment by department –Initiate Fall 2015
