All the Lost Question: Who does Jesus pick? Who does He want to be on His team?

All the Lost Parallels in the StoriesThe Blind ManZacchaeus LocationJesus approaching JerichoJesus passing through Jericho Men introduced by social status Socially alienatedSocially despised They move toward JesusHe calls out to Jesus, “Son of David” He wants to see Jesus, climbs a tree The crowd is an obstacleThey verbally discourage him because of their attitude toward him They physically prevent him because of their attitude toward him

All the Lost Parallels in the StoriesThe Blind ManZacchaeus Jesus’ responseStops and asks him what he wants. Restores his sight. Stops and invites himself over for dinner. The men’s responsePraises God and follows Jesus. Welcomes Jesus as Lord. Commits to helping the poor and repaying anyone he has cheated.

All the Lost TextStory Luke 1 God breaks onto the scene through a barren elderly couple and a poor, unmarried young woman Luke 2 God reveals the Messiah’s birth first to shepherds Luke 4 Jesus announces that he has come to proclaim good news to the Gentiles Luke 5 Jesus calls fishermen to be his disciples, heals a man with leprosy, calls a tax collector to be his follower then hangs out with the man’s tax collector friends Luke 7 Jesus honours a woman who was thought of by the religious elite only as a sinner Luke 8 Jesus stops to talk to a woman he has healed while a synagogue ruler waits with his daughter on the verge of dying

All the Lost TextStory Luke 9 Jesus welcomes little children and commands his followers to do the same Luke 14 Jesus tells a parable in which the “poor, the crippled, the blind and lame” are the ones who receive the Kingdom of God Luke 15 Jesus tells a parable in which a son who is so disrespectful that he should be disowned is welcomed home by his father Luke 16 Jesus tells a parable of a beggar who joins Abraham after death while a rich man who dies is tormented in Hades Luke 17 Jesus heals 10 men with leprosy, but only a Samaritan returns to say thanks Luke 18 Jesus tells a parable in which a tax collector is received by God while a member of the religious elite is condemned, and he again welcomes little children and tells his followers to do so

All the Lost What separates people in this world is not LOST and NOT-LOST But LOST and FOUND

All the Lost Question: Who do we pick? Who do we want to be on Jesus’ team?

All the Lost Our AttitudeThe Lie We Believe 1. They wouldn’t be interestedPeople in Quebec perceive the gospel as not responding to their soul’s needs 2. They don’t need JesusThey are good enough people OR their deep needs are being met through what society offers 3. They’re too far away from God, as evidenced by their lifestyle/values Lifestyle choices make some more sinful than others and therefore undesirous of God or undesired by God 4. The risk of rejection is not worth it because suffering is always to be avoided Comfort is always better than suffering

All the Lost Our AttitudeThe Lie We Believe 5. I’m not competent to share the gospelOnly experts should tell the lost about Jesus so that they can be found 6. I’m not called to share the gospelOnly some Christians need to tell the lost about Jesus so that they can be found

All the Lost Our AttitudeThe Lie We Believe 7. Our sinful views toward the other:  sticking to people who are like us through isolation or shallow engagement  pride/moral superiority  fear of awkwardness/discomfort The lie we believe about the other:  It’s better only to associate or enter into deep relationship with people who are of the same race, religion, social status, or sex as me  Being a Christian means I shouldn’t be friends with people whose lifestyles God doesn’t approve of  Awkward situations are uncomfortable so it’s okay if I avoid awkward or less socially capable people

All the Lost When we see these attitudes present individually and collectively, the appropriate action is to Repent And to Commit to seeking ALL the lost
