Presentation transcript:

Learning theory Transfer of Learning ‘Almost all learning is based on the concept of transfer’ Singer This theory relates to the skills from one task relating to performance in another task…..such as ? Even when the sports are different some similarities occur……… Transfer is defined as the gain or loss in in the capability to perform one task as a result of practicing another task Transfer of learning between two tasks increases when the similarity between them increases e.g.

Learning theory Transfer of Learning Fundamental movement patterns Give an example of one….overarm pattern Sports that use this pattern include: Baseball Tennis serve Cricket Volleyball spike Basketball Hookshot All involve forceful overarm movements with ballistic actions

Learning theory Transfer of Learning Coaching Implications; Training sessions must be relevant to real sports situations Performers must be exposed to as many transferable elements in training Identify similarities between skills e.g. baseball throw – cricket fielding Emphasise transfer to future skills –doing this will help you to…..

Learning theory Transfer of Learning Perceptual elements Common features such as ball or racquet games Ball flight is common no mater what the game spin, distance, and angle of flight are the same For example skilled knowledge in one ball game will provide positive transfer to other situations

Learning theory Transfer of Learning recap Some transfer is Proactive if it influences a skill yet to be learned If a skill influences one that you already know then it is called .. Retroactive transfer. Where a skill enhances the performance in another then it is Positive Negative transfer needs elimination as it leads to the formation of poor habits. Bilateral transfer is the encouragement of limb to limb transfer e.g. right to left foot
