Kiarah’S SAHEL QUESTIONS Here are some of the answers to your questions about the Sahel. Some important facts and history happenings.

WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF THE 2 TRIBES THAT LIVE IN THE SAHEL?  FULANI. YOUNG MAN BEAT EACH OTHER WITH WALKING STICKS.  DOGON.THEY DANCE IN RELIGIOUS RITUALS LIKE THERE RULER DAMA.

THE ONE MEAL THEY EAT. THEY EAT GROUNDNUT STEW WITH CHICKEN.THE DOGONS EAT THE SAME EXACT THING.

What Are the four animals? The four animals in the Sahel, are the Warthogs, Segnal gerbil, Zebu and the Giraffe. the warthog migrates with the season. The warthog stands about 30 inches tall. The segnal gerbil grows to about 4 to 6 inches they feed on seeds and roots. The zebu is a type of cattle it’s been in africa since 400 AD. The giraffe is also known as the “spotted camel”. . What are the nine countries The nine countries are Chad, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Segnal, and Sudan.

What was destroyed in the 1970’s In the 1970’s 30% of the poorest region was destroyed, because of the drought called “famine” it killed about 200,000 people.

What is the climate like.  On average the Sahel ranks as the hottest place on earth. Year round temperatures go from 77 degrees to 86.

What is the average temperature? The wet season comes between June and September, but rainfall is usually moderate. The Sahel received as much in 1999 as Florida received in one month.

Where are the bodies of water located? It contains the fertile delta of Niger, signal, Gambia, Nile, lake chad, straddiling chad, cameron, and niger

What is the most distinctive feature?  The Sahel’s most distinctive feature is the barren plains.

What happened between 1960’s to 1980’s?  Thousands of people were killed in the drought. They used the boabob tree so that when the rainy season came they used it as a roof.
