History: The ancient Olympic Games began in the year 776 BC, when Koroibos, a cook from the nearby city of Elis, won the stadium race, a foot race 600 feet long. According to some literary traditions, this was the only athletic event of the games for the first 13 Olympic festivals. Other evidence suggests that the games may have existed at Olympia much earlier than this date, perhaps as early as the 10th or 9th century BC.

Events There are many track and field events. They consist of the long jump, triple jump, javelin, pole vault, high jump, discus, shot put, hammer throw, pentathlon, decathlon, walking, relays, and many more.

Olympics and World Championships Some of the world championships that occurred in Olympic history are USA Half Marathon Championships (Jan. 17), the USA 25km Championships (May 8), USA Masters Half Marathon Championships (Feb. 7), and many more.
