A Person Healed in Jesus’ Name Acts 3:1-10

Divine Healing Involves a supernatural act which resolves a physical, emotional or spiritual problem. In a Christian context, the supernatural element is God, many times through the agency of the Holy Spirit.

Norman Cousins In Anatomy of an Illness, he describes how he fought off a crippling disease with the health-restoring weapons of laughter and joy. The benefits of good nutrition, relaxation, a soul at peace, and the harmony of love are aspects of common grace available to all.

A Surgeon's View of Divine Healing The Spirit can affect the actual cells of our body by bringing to them a powerful orienting force. When the mind is God-centered and the person is "walking in the Spirit," cells receive a new direction, are enhanced, and the whole person functions best.

1. What were the names of two apostles together for prayer? Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being  the ninth hour (3:pm).

Prayer and the Ninth Hour Read Daniel 9:20-22; Luke 18:10; Acts 10:3

2. How did the lame man earn a living? Acts 3:2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms (money or food) of them that entered into the temple;

He was a poor lame beggar at the temple gate. He was a cripple, not by accident, but born so. A paralytic distemper weakened his limbs;

3. What did the lame man ask Apostles Peter and John? Acts 3:3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms (charitable offering).

4. What did Apostle Peter tell the lame man to do? Acts 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

Look On Us Our eye must be ever towards the Lord (the eye of our mind), and the eye of the body may be fixed on the ministers of his grace. This man thought this gave him cause to expect something from them, and therefore he gave heed to them.

5. Why did the lame man obey Apostle Peter's command? Acts 3:5 I will direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. We must come to God in prayer with hearts fixed. We must look up to heaven and expect to receive from God.

6. What did Apostle Peter command the lame man to do? Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Healing grace is given by the word of Christ. Christ spoke cures by himself; the apostles spoke them in his name. Peter bids a lame man rise up and walk, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

7. After Apostle Peter lifted the lame man, what happened to his feet and ankle bones? Acts 3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

When God by his word commands us to rise, and walk in the way of his commandments, if we mix faith with that word, and lay our souls under the power of it, he will give his Spirit to take us by the hand, and lift us up. If we set ourselves to do what we can, God has promised his grace to enable us to do what we cannot.

8. What three exciting things the man did after his miraculous healing 8. What three exciting things the man did after his miraculous healing? Acts 3:8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

NOTES The incomes of strength were sudden, and he was no less sudden in showing them. He leaped, as one glad to quit the bed or pad of straw on which he had lain so long lame. Let us walk cheerfully with God, and in strength received from him.

9. Who saw the man walking and praising God? Acts 3:9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God:  They assembled at the hour of public prayer, in the temple courts; so that the miracle had the utmost publicity.

10. What were the people filled with after verifying the man's identity? Acts 3:10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

Isaiah 35:4-6 4. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” 5. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. 6a. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.

Joni Eareckson Tada A person who found her physical abilities impaired and unhealed, but her spiritual potential released. Joni has a profound spiritual impact on thousands of people. She motivated others with handicaps to believe that faith, trust, and usefulness to God are available to all of us, with or without physical healing.
