2 Part 7 The Gifts of the Spirit
The Holy Spirit Part 7 The Gifts of the Spirit

3 What Are We Speaking Of ? Mark 16:15-20-signs Acts 2:16-18-power
1 Cor. 12:1, gifts specifically named

4 How Were They Bestowed ? Acts 1:4-5,8; 2:16 Baptism with the Spirit
Laying on the apostle’s hands No other biblically recorded way to receive Spiritual gifts

5 The Gifts Were Temporary
Ephesians 4:18-15 teaches it 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 likewise …Love never fails, but gifts would cease, be done away with.

6 Paul Presents a Contrast
Partial vs. perfect Childish vs. maturity Dim vision vs. clear sight Partial vs. full knowledge What is “the perfect?”

7 What is “the perfect?” NOT the 2nd coming not in 28 times used “perfect” in the New Testament refers to things mature, fully grown, of full age, complete …referring to the complete revelation of God’s will and ways… W.E.Vine

8 Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

9 James 1:25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

10 Contrast in 1 Cor.13:8-12 is between ‘now’ and ‘then’
Paul is telling them the gifts were going but some things were going to stay.

11 1 Corinthians 13:13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

12 Contrast in 1 Cor.13 is between ‘now’ and ‘then’
Paul is telling them the gifts were going but some things were going to stay. The gifts were going, but faith, hope, and love were going to “abide.” Obviously, the 2nd coming was NOT under discussion!

13 Will The Real Holy Spirit Please Stand Up?

14 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. [2] And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. [3] Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. [4] And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” [5] And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. [6] But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” [7] And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. [8] And leaping up he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. [9] And all the people saw him walking and praising God, [10] and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. (Acts 3:1-10 ESV)

15 But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him [10] and said, “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord? [11] And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand. [12] Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord. (Acts 13:9-12 ESV)

16 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. [17] She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” [18] And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour. (Acts 16:16-18 ESV)

17 And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, [12] so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. (Acts 19:11-12 ESV)

18 Will The Real Holy Spirit Please Stand Up?
Make the Holy Spirit a liar Try to separate the gifts All FAIL frequently Blame their failures on the sick ALWAYS want money

19 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 …that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

20 We walk by faith, not by sight.
Lying signs and wonders are a tool the Devil would use and some people WILL believe them. We walk by faith, not by sight. 1 Corinthians 5:7

21 Have you followed the Holy Spirit so as to be saved?
