Artificial light and the influence on our daily life By Premus

Activity Within these lessons the children will learn and think about artificial light and the influence on our daily life, a.o. by discussion with elderly

7-9 years old Artificial light Socioscientific research Discussion of the connection between science and society Teaching level & objectives

Theory / experiment on artificial light Home assignment (what kind of artificial lights are used at home and when/how long (lights/t.v./computer etc) Interview with e.g. grandparents about living without artificial lights Discussion Strategies

Active learning Constructivistic approach Mixed teacher/student control Case-based teaching, which can be used to engage students in critical thinking and decision making about realistic problems in a discipline Model

Materials Sources of artificial and natural light Interview questions, (partially) created by the students Classroom organisation Whole class discussion / 'teaching' Individual home assignment Small group discussion on results Procedures

The children can list a number of artificial light sources in their homes The children can write down a number of uses of artifical light The children will compare life with and without artificial lights The children can give a number of alternatives to artificial light sources The children can create a questionnaire Learning outcomes
