Mathematics 2 Ms. Meek Rounding Numbers to the Nearest Ten

Counting by Ten Counting by ten means that there are ten numbers in between each counting number ^ 20 ^ 30 ^ 40 ^ 50… If starting at 0 and counting by 10, each number counted ends in 0.

Rounding Numbers Often times, in order to simplify adding and subtracting, or because an exact number is not needed, we round a number to the nearest 10. Meaning, we round to any of the numbers ending in 0. (ex: 10, 20, 30…)

A helpful jingle: Five or more, raise the score. Four or less, let it rest. Rounding Numbers

Examples: 1212 When rounding to the nearest ten, look at the ones place. 2 is less than 5. Round up to 20 or down to ten? 10 Rounding Numbers

Examples: 3535 When rounding to the nearest ten, look at the ones place. If the number in the ones place is 5 or greater, raise the score. Round up to 40 or down to 30? 40 Rounding Numbers

Examples: 8787 When rounding to the nearest ten, look at the ones place. If the number in the ones place is 5 or greater, raise the score. 7 is greater than 5 Round up to 90 or down to 80? 90 Rounding Numbers
