 The 4X100 meter relay is a track & field event where 4 people form one team and each person runs a hundred meters (in succession) while holding a baton.

 A baton is a hollow smooth cylinder that is transferred between team mates during a race.  The baton was introduced in 1893  People use to run with flags before batons were introduced.

A B C D

Wrong! Good try though. Go back and re-read the baton information slide and try again.

Correct!!! Head to the next slide!

 A hand off is when a one person of the relay team hands the baton off to the next person.  A hand off can only occur in the designated zone. If the exchange occurs outside of the zone then the whole team is disqualified.  If a baton is dropped then the runner has to pick it up before they can continue running.

A. The team is penalized and 5 seconds is added to their overall time. B. Nothing happens. C. The team is disqualified. D. One runner has to run twice.

Close, but not quite right. Go back and re-read the hand off information slide. Then try the question again.

Ding, Ding, Ding!!! You are correct!!! Head to the next slide.

 The anchor (also know as the anchor leg of the race) is the last person to run in the relay.  Usually the fastest person runs the anchor leg of the race.  This is because they can make up time if the team is behind.

True False

Oh, your so close! Go back to the Anchor information slide and re-read the slide again. Then try again.

Yes!!! You got it right. Here’s your gold medal for completing this quiz. Head to the next page for a reward.

 As a reward for making it through this quiz you can watch these two videos. Remember after you get done watching the video, close everything so I can see who isn't finished. U
