Community Service Project Dixon Wingrove

What is the Problem? Domestic violence affects many people in America and in the Outer Banks. Domestic violence is defined as behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. There are two main types. There are two main types of domestic violence. One type of violence is physical. Physical domestic violence is where a spouse physically hurts their partner. This could be something as small as a push or it could be repeated punches or kicks. Another type of violence is emotional. Emotional violence is physiological. When a spouse makes their partner feel bad about themselves emotionally, without physical violence but with word is emotional Violence. Most often domestic violence in a relationship is a mixture of both of these violence’s.

How did I Help? I helped by volunteering at the thrift store Hotline. This helps the social issue because many victims go into Hotline to buy things to try to start their lives over. I assisted here by moving things that people had donated into the store for purchase. It felt very good to help these people out.

What did I Learn? I learned that even the smallest effort can help. Many people donated things to the store. Some donated items such as televisions and couches, but others donated clothes or shoes. But even if the item was not very expensive it was still appreciated and helped a great deal.

Was the Activity Worth While? Helping at Hotline was defiantly worth it. The gratification I felt knowing that I helped people less fortunate then myself was priceless. I would defiantly recommend this volunteer work.
