Domestic Violence By: Alejandra Ramos and Maria Vazquez

2 What I set to learn.. We raised awareness by bringing a speaker to Sharpstown International and spoke about her personal experience on domestic violence.  Also fundraising....

3 My argument is to try helping and let people in my community know that domestic violence is a crime. Domestic Violence should be stopped and more people should help because many men and woman get abuse or killed and are to scared to get help.

4 Based on reports from 10 countries, between 55 percent and 95 percent of women who had been physically abused by their partners had never contacted non-governmental organizations, shelters, or the police for help. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. Research Findings

5 Why this project.. We choose this topic because many people don't know about domestic violence and also not only women go through it but men as well.

6 Greatest Success Our Greatest success was our speaker Diane Morrow , she was the only person that was willing to come and share her personal experience with us. We were surprised that there were a lot of students that asked questions. So although we had a few problems, we stilled pulled it through and at the end it was a success.

7 Greatest Challenge Greatest Challenge # 2 Greatest Challenge #1 Our second greatest challenge was not being able to volunteer at Houston Area Women Center. They told us that we had to be 18 years old. Also recently I was planning to take some clothes that I don’t use no more to the Houston Women Center but they told me that they don’t except used clothes. To come back with some new clothes. Our first greatest challenge was not being able to find someone that was willing to come and share their personal experience. We called all these different shelter homes, and nothing. Either they just hung up on us or they would tell us that they will give us a call back, but they never did. So as you can see these have been our greatest challenge. But although we weren't able to donate the clothes, we are still collecting money in order to send it out to them.

8 What we learned about the world…
People pay more attention to other things except domestic violence. Domestic violence is also a big issue just like breast cancer, hunger and other big issues we hear everyday. Domestic Violence can be a learned behavior and that most of the time people are embarrassed to talk about physical and emotional abused all over the world. They feel ashamed of what is happening to them. Majority of the time they feel like it is there fault that are being mistreated.

9 What we learned about ourselves…
What my partner and I learned about ourselves is that we need to be more compassionate towards people that are in this situation. Also now that we know more about this situation we will be more aware of the people we surround ourselves with. By saying this I mean our future relationships.

10 Breaking the Cycle Breaking the cycle of abuse is very difficult, The dynamics involved in an abusive relationship are complicated, and stopping this cycle is not easy, simple or quick. It takes a great deal of self-esteem and support for a victim of domestic violence to take steps to break the cycle of abuse. We have to show these victims that there is help out there and that they are not alone.

11 In Conclusion..
