1 st Workshop on issues and trends arising from the European IRRS missions Objectives of the workshop A.Munuera Brussels, 22 nd and 23 rd January 2014

The European Nuclear Safety Directive (June 2009) article 9.3 requires:  Member States shall arrange for periodic self-assessment  At least for every 10 years ENSREG recommended the IRRS programme Cooperation between the EU MS and the IAEA MoU ENSREG/IAEA signed in 2011

IRRS-Missions in EU Member States  MoU states that “A joint ENSREG/IAEA workshop will be held every 2 years, starting in 2013, to discuss issues and trends arising from the European IRRS missions. This joint workshop should be alternated with the existing IRRS Lessons Learned workshop which is organized by the IAEA every two years. The results of the workshop are intended to enhance the continuous improvement of nuclear safety and inform the development of future European missions. It can also provide input to the review meetings under the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the Joint Convention.”  This workshop was prepared by WG1 at its meeting and further developed by a small task group ( BE, PO and GB) : –Issues to be covered –Participation –Guidelines for presentations of MS feedback

The key objectives of the workshop are:  To review recent IRRS missions to EU member countries  Use experience to help other countries with their future IRRS missions  Identify areas for improvement in the IRRS process  Identify improvements to regulatory processes, resulting from IRRS missions 4

IRRS-Missions in EU Member States  Workshop program: –WG1: Context, IRRS-process under the NSD, MoU, Pool of experts –IAEA: Trends in findings from recent IRRS missions (EU and world), future developments –EU MS feedback on: preparing for IRRS (FR,NL), results of recent missions (BE,CH,SE), results of recent follow-up missions (ES,GB,GR) –Review of findings from recent missions ( )
