Why is the library divided the way it is? Where do I find What I want? The Dewey Decimal System was developed by Melville Dewey. He was a librarian in New York in the 1800's who wanted to organize his book collection in a way that would make sense to everyone. Melville Dewey Now, imagine that you are one of the first humans on earth

100's Philosophy and Psychology Who Am I? ( A human thinks about himself.)

Who made me? ( A human thinks about God.) 200’s Religion

300's Social Sciences Who is the person in the next Cave? ( A human thinks about others.)

How can I make that person understand me? 400's Language ( Humans learn to communicate with others through words.)

500's Science How can I understand nature and the world around me? ( Humans learn to understand nature on the land, in the sea and in the sky.)

600's Applied Science What humans created. ( Humans learn about fire, tools, cooking, building, medicine, and domesticating animals.) How can I use what I know about nature?

700's Fine Arts and Recreation How can I enjoy my leisure time? (By this time, primitive humans had more time to do the things they enjoyed. They learned to paint pictures and to play games.)

800's Literature ( Humans became storytellers. They created sagas, epics, poetry and plays about ancestors and people they knew. Later, they put these into writing for all people to read.) How can I give to my children a record of heroic deeds? 800's Literature
