Activity 13: The Processes and Outcomes of Evolution Introduction  Microevolution is evolution on a small scale, and it results in changes in the proportion of genes in a population.  Speciation is the formation of species as a result of barriers to gene flow that split the gene pool, followed by an accumulation of differences between the gene pools.
