Ukraine in Europe Ukraine is located in Europe

Map Fertile plains are the same as steppes. The mountain plateaus are the Carpathian Mountain.

Kiev City Kiev is the largest city and it is the capital of Ukraine. Kiev has a port on the Dnieper River.

The Ukrainian flag The Ukraine flag is blue and yellow. Blue stands for the sky. Yellow stands for wheat, the main source for Ukraine.

Language Ukrainian is the official language. It is a Slavic language with a Cyrillic alphabet of 33 letters. Russian was also an official language during the Soviet period, and it is still widely spoken by the ethnic Russians. More than half the people can speak two languages.

Money The Ukraine money is Hryvnya. They just started using this type of money in 1996.

Traditional Costumes On holidays people wear traditional costumes to perform dances and songs.

Clothing Professionalmen wear suits and hats. Women wear skirts and dresses. In the winter they wear sweaters, coats, and scarves on their heads.

Eating and food Borsch is the most popular dish in Ukraine (beet root vegetable soup). The most popular dishes are made out of cereal grains and flour pastes.
