How do I add a Project to my Resume? Why is it always so complicated?

Adding a Project to Your Resume 2 What does a recruiter care about?  Do they care that you did a whole bunch of projects?  Do they care that you priced a derivative?  Do they care that you know GARCH?  Do they care that you executed the Monte Carlo simulation?  Tempting to just list a bunch of projects under C++ or other classes…………..do not do that, ok?

Adding a Project to Your Resume 3 Then HOW DO I DO THAT??!!! 1. Give the project a meaningful title…not, “C++ Project” Example: “Coding Black Sholes Equation in C++” Example: “GNP Forecasting Project” 2. What should that look like on the Resume? GNP Forecasting Project, Boston University 2015

Adding a Project to Your Resume 4 Then HOW DO I DO THAT??!!! 3.If there was something you were looking to accomplish, then give a summary of that in your first bullet item starting with a past tense verb or “goal”. If not, that’s ok, too..just start into step 4. GNP Forecasting Project, Boston University 2015 Goal: To determine if the GNP was predictable when ……..

Adding a Project to Your Resume 5 Then HOW DO I DO THAT??!!! 4.List the steps you took to complete the project, always starting with a past tense verb or “goal”. GNP Forecasting Project, Boston University 2015 Goal: To determine if the GNP was predictable when …….. Ran Monte Carlo simulation using data from 1/1/2005-1/1/2015. Compared to……………….

Adding a Project to Your Resume 6 Then HOW DO I DO THAT??!!! 4.Conclusion. The final Bullet Point should identify what you found or what you learned that made that project meaningful. This is the big ‘punch’ to make this meaningful to an employer/recruiter. GNP Forecasting Project, Boston University 2015 Goal: To determine if the GNP was predictable when …….. Ran Monte Carlo simulation using data from 1/1/2005-1/1/2015. Compared to………………. Found that in a _____ market the GNP is _______, etc….. [Remember to think about why a recruiter cares…why?]
