 Proposal – Oral Histories getting to the ‘intangible’ history of Santa Ana  Objective – How our Oral History program fills the need in this aspect of historic preservation in Santa Ana

 Oral history is the systematic collection of living people's testimony about their own experiences.  Capturing people’s experiences, memories, and stories in their own words visually and auditory

What is our mission? The preservation and collection of all items related to the History of Santa Ana and Orange County.

 Santa Ana is very diverse our goal is to conduct oral histories to capture all elements of Santa Ana history  Museums, Archives, Historical Societies  Black, Hispanic, Vietnamese, Japanese, White Communities  Religious organizations  Barrio history  Activists groups – left and right  Businesses and manufacturers  Women’s voices  Education  Neighborhood Associations

Opportunities to help preserve Santa Ana History A safe place for community TEEN COMMUNITY HISTORIANS Providing guidance and mentorship Being part of Santa Ana History

I volunteered in the Santa Ana History Room with the intent to preserve history but I found myself learning how to make it instead. How I became involved in the Project

Ended up working in the History Room mentoring Teenagers Even if they don’t study history, I want to encourag e them to pursue their passions.
