He was born May 23, 1862 and died December 15, He was born in Houckstown, Ohio. Birth and Death

How he became deaf? He became deaf because of an illness when he was a child.

Baseball He is famous because he is the first deaf baseball player. He hit the first grand slam In the American league. When he was a rookie he led the National league in stealing bases. He played baseball in the Major leagues for 15 years on 5 different teams.

What he made A difference on He made a difference with the hand signs they use today in baseball. For stealing bases so the other team wont know, and when they are up to bat when they either bunt or swing.

Family His wife was Anna Maria Hoy. His Adopted father was John Lowery Jr. and his adopted mother was Katherine Lowery. His Grandpa was John Lowery Sr. and his son was Carson Hoy. His Daughters were Carmen Hoy and Clover Hoy.
