North Atlantic Ocean By: Ethan Turman, Michaela Lyons, Telson Langbata, Shamara Hall, Esmeralda Hernandez

Information The North Atlantic Ocean… Is 41.08 million square miles. Is located between North America and Africa. Is approximately 13,000 feet deep. Has a temperature of about 41 degrees Fahrenheit at 3,000 feet. The second largest ocean (the pacific is first)

Fun Facts The North Atlantic… Was formed during the Jurassic period. Home of the Bermuda Triangle. Was the first ocean to be crossed by ship. The name of the first ship to cross this ocean that had passengers on it was the Cunard Line. Was the first ocean to be crossed by airplane. Was the ocean Amelia Earhart flew solo over. Is where the Titanic sank in the N. Atlantic.

Truth to the Myth About the Bermuda Triangle It stretches from Florida, to the island of Bermuda to San Juan in Puerto Rico. Planes and boats can get lost and/or crash for many reasons It’s one of the two places on the planet that show true north not magnetic north on a compass which can take a ship or plane off their course. It’s subject to violent and unexpected storms and weather changes. These short but intense storms can build up and dissipate quickly, causing navigational problems. Scientists have discovered the presence of large concentrations of methane gas trapped by ice on the ocean floor. Within seconds of a methane gas pocket rupturing, the gas surges up and erupts on the surface without warning and makes the water less dense, and if a ship is around the area of the blowout it can sink to the bottom.

Aquatic Life Here are a few animals that live in the North Atlantic Manatee Humpback whale Atlantic ghost crab Starfish Grey Atlantic seal North Atlantic right whale

Trade Routes in the N. Atlantic The Northwest passage- a route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean through Canada. The Triangular Trade(used in the 15th and 16th centuries) - was a system in which slaves, crops, and manufactured goods were traded between Africa, the Caribbean, and the American colonies.
