Operations Research - Tutorial 2

Transportation Problem A dairy firm has three plants located in a state. The daily milk production at each plant is as follows Plant 1: 6 million ltr Plant 2: 1 million ltr and Plant 3: 10 million ltr Each day, the firm must fulfill the needs of its four distribution centers. Maximum requirement at each centre is as follows Distribution Centre 1: 7 million ltr Distribution Centre 2: 5 million ltr Distribution Centre 3: 3 million ltr and Distribution Centre 4: 2 million ltr Cost in hundreds of rupees of shipping one million ltr to each distribution centre is given in following table. D1D2D3D4 P P21061 P Determine optimal distribution for minimizing the transportation cost.

Transportation Problem A company has factories at F1, F2 and F3 which supply to warehouses at W1, W2 and W3. Weekly factory capacities are 200, 160 and 90 units, respectively. Weekly warehouse requirement are 180, 120 and 150, respectively. Unit shipping costs in Rs. are as follows: W1W2W3 F F F Determine optimal distribution for minimizing the transportation cost.
