Roman Gods and Goddesses By Alberto Mendoza

Jupiter Jupiter is the king of the gods, lightning, and the sky. His weapon is the thunder bolt. Every Roman was afraid of him.

Neptune Neptune is the god of the rivers, seas, and oceans. He carries a trident that has three prongs. He rides a chariot pulled by hippocampus.

Pluto Pluto is the god of the death. That’s why Romans were afraid of Pluto. If they say Pluto's real name he might kill them.

Minerva Minerva is the goddess of wisdom . Her symbol is the owl. She is also the goddess of arts, crafts and battle technique.

Mars Mars is the god of war. Since Romans thought war was one of the most important things in the world Mars is their second most important god. The first is Jupiter.

Apollo Apollo is the god of the of music, poetry, oracles, archery, and the sun. Each day he rides in a chariot with horses that are on fire. He rides them across the sky to light across the world.

Mercury Mercury is the god of messages. He has wings on his sandals so he can fly around delivering messages to the gods. He carries a staff called a caduceus. He is also the god of the thieves.

Vulcan Vulcan is the god of the smith. He made all of the gods weapons, staffs, and armor. He made women of gold to help him in his smithy, possibly the first robots.

Venus Venus is the goddess of love. She was born in the sea. She floats in a scallop shell. Her son is Cupid the god of love.
