Presentation transcript:

DA POC/Lead: Doug Nebert (USGS) Leads: George Percivall (OGC) Rita Almeida Ribeiro (HOLOS, Portugal) Ken Masarie (NOAA) Martha Maiden (NASA) Jimmy Voyles (DOE) Define a model web portal system for access to all Earth observation data, based on existing portals and systems, designed to increase use, quality, and accessibility of existing information, tools, and networks. Particular attention will be given to the coordination of networks in specific societal benefit areas to enable reuse thereby to achieve synergy and leverage.

Participants (~35)

Work to be performed Request hosting proposals and recommend host to maintain a model web portal system, including access to: GEOSS Interoperability Registry, GEOSS Components Registry, GEO Clearinghouse, and GEO Best Practices Registry. Deploy one or more prototypes of the model web portal system. Select a prototype system to serve as the GEO home portal for which GEO SECRETARIAT will be the managing editor. This GEO home portal will co-exist with other portals that are branded as participants in the GEO Clearinghouse

Activities Participating organisations will be solicited for candidate prototypes pending concurrence on requirements, relevant standards, and specifications for the network of earth observation catalogues and their interfaces. Portal prototype solutions would be sought to provide seamless common access to collections and inventories of geographic information, including imagery, vector, and sensor data allowing for the discovery, evaluation (visualisation, metadata review), and access or order of data via Web Services. Candidate portal solutions must be based on open standards for catalogue services and provide timely access to distributed geographic catalogues maintained by participating organisations.

Issues Web Portal depends on interoperability specifications, underlying services, and adherence to standards, and includes or subsumes GEO-Clearinghouse (AR ), Feature Catalog (DA-06-06), and catalogues of metadata (DA-06-04)
