 Located in Warrington, PA  Open for lunch and breakfast  Sells: › Bagels, Sandwiches, Breads, Salads/Soups, and Beverages  Owners: › Lisa O’Boyle and Kathy Braddish

 Wanted to find out if food orders at Village Bagel had any association with… › Gender › Type of bagel › Here/to go › Breakfast/lunch › Time › Modifications › Toasted/not toasted

 Collected food order tickets from Village Bagel over the course of three days  Separated the tickets by gender into two different bags  Collected data from every fifth ticket that we pulled out of each bag until we had 30 tickets for females and 31 tickets for males  Test of significance and interval: › 1-Sample T-Interval on average time of orders › Chi-Square Test for independence for toasted/not toasted and bagel type › Chi-Square Test for independence for modifications and gender › Chi-Square Test for independence for here/to go and lunch/breakfast › 2 Sample T-Test for time VS. gender

 This graph shows that our data was unimodal at 11:30 with a symmetric shape and slight right skew. It has a gap at 13:00 and a spread of (6:30,14:30). Lastly, the center of this graph lies around 9:30.  Over the course of three days the busiest time of day was at 11:30  There were no customers at 13:00  There were the least amount of customers at 10:00 and 12:30  The amount of customers was the most consistent from 13:30 to 14:30 Histogram for Time of Orders

Pie Chart for Types of Bagels

 The most popular bagel was everything with 10 orders  The least popular bagels were egg and cinnamon raisin with one order each  There were 16 bagel flavors ordered out of the 22 types that are offered Bar Chart for Types of Bagels

 From our data the majority of customers would come into Village Bagel at 11:30 › This could vary on weekends VS. weekdays  Most customers would prefer their order to be on an everything bagel from the popularity shown in the pie and bar chart

 Conditions: › SRS › Normal population or n ≥ 30 › Population ≥ 10n Average Time of Orders  Check: › Assumed › n=61 › There are more than 610 time orders All condition met Student’s T distribution 1-Sample T-Interval

Average Time of Orders We are 95% confident that the true average time of orders made at Village Bagel are between 9:33 AM and 10:35 AM. In reoccurring samples of the same size (n=61), the true average time of orders will catch the interval 95% of the time.

 Conditions: › Categorical Data › SRS › All expected cell counts are ≥ 5 Independence for toasted/not toasted and bagel type  Check: › Yes, bagel type and toasted/not toasted are categorical › Assumed › All expected cell counts are NOT ≥ 5 › Although this check doesn’t meet the requirement, we will still continue with the test All condition met Chi-Square distribution Chi-Square test for independence Ho: There is no association between toasted/not toasted and bagel type Ha: There is an association between toasted/not toasted and bagel type

Independence for toasted/not toasted and bagel type We fail to reject the Ho because the p-value of.19 is greater than the alpha of We have sufficient evidence that there is no association between toasted/not toasted and bagel type customers may prefer to have a certain bagel flavor toasted.

Independence for toasted/not toasted and bagel type  The most popular toasted item the everything bagel  The least popular toasted item was cinnamon raisin, whole grain, and wraps  The most popular not toasted item was bread  The least popular not toasted item cranberry orange, egg, and garlic

Independence for modifications and gender Ho: There is no association between modifications and gender Ha: There is an association between modifications and gender  Conditions: › Categorical Data › SRS › All expected cell counts are ≥ 5  Check: › Yes, modifications and gender are categorical › Assumed › All expected cell counts are ≥ 5 All condition met Chi-Square distribution Chi-Square test for independence

Independence for modifications and gender We fail to reject Ho because the p-value of 0.53 is greater than the alpha of 0.05 We have sufficient evidence that there is no association between gender and modification. So, gender may not determine if customers modify their order.

 The most popular was to not have any modifications for both males and females  There were more females that made modifications Independence for modifications and gender

Independence for here/to go and lunch/breakfast Ho: There is no association between here/to go and lunch/breakfast Ha: There is an association between here/to go and lunch/breakfast  Conditions: › Categorical Data › SRS › All expected cell counts are ≥ 5  Check: › Yes, here/to go and lunch/breakfast are categorical › Assumed › All expected cell counts are ≥ 5 All condition met Chi-Square distribution Chi-square test for independence

Independence for here/to go and lunch/breakfast We fail to reject Ho because the p-value of 0.4 is greater than the alpha of 0.05 We have sufficient evidence that there is no association between here/to go and lunch/breakfast.

 For breakfast the majority of the customers took their order to go  For lunch the majority of the customers also took their order to go  The most common order was choosing to eat breakfast to go  The least common order was choosing to eat lunch at the restaurant Independence for here/to go and lunch/breakfast

Time VS. Gender  Conditions: › 2 independent SRS › 2 normal population or n 1 and n 2 ≥ 30 › pop 1 ≥ 10 n1 and pop 2 ≥ 10 n2  Check: › Assumed independent and random › n 1 and n 2 ≥ 30 › n 1 = 30 › n 2 = 31 › More than 300 females and 310 males All condition met Student’s T distribution 2 sample T-Test Ho: µ 1 = µ 2 Ha: µ 1 ≠ µ 2

Time VS. Gender = We reject Ho because the p-value of is less than the alpha of 0.05 We have sufficient evidence that the average time of females and males orders are not equal.

 Female: › There are 5 outliers › There is a median at11:00 › Minimum= 8:30 › Maximum= 11:30  Males: › There are no outliers › There is a median at 9:00 › Minimum= 7:00 › Maximum= 15:00 Time VS. Gender

 Chi-Square Test for independence for toasted/not toasted and bagel type › There is no association between toasted/not toasted and bagel type  Chi-Square Test for independence for modifications and gender › There is no association between gender and modification › Gender may not determine if customers modify their order  Chi-Square Test for independence for here/to go and lunch/breakfast › There is no association between here/to go and lunch/breakfast  2 Sample T-Test for time VS. gender › The average time of females and males orders are not equal

 Tickets may get mixed up and be unsure of which gender ordered what  People may not care what type of bagel they get their sandwich on  May lose or have tickets thrown out by accident  There may not be a large enough sample size to come to accurate solutions  Using only one Village Bagel Company restaurant  Restricted to only people in the area  Data could have been more accurate with a larger sample size

 Data: › Collecting data was easy because Chelsea works at Village Bagel › Employees were willing to help us collect tickets  Project: › Took a lot of time to put everything together › Fun and enjoyable project
