Which model the Choice is up to you …… E-Readers

History of the E-Reader Earliest model was 1970, they were desk prototypes of the notebook computer Earliest books were those in the Gutenberg Project Books were for specific people and limited audiences, technical manuals, manufacturing manuals books came out on cd ROMs, 1992 selling new physical books online st digital book is published, shortly after that the next 50 came out 1995 Amazon starts selling physical books online st ISBN issued to an E Book

History cont 1998 first e book readers sold 2000 Stephen King offers book in digital.. Can only be read on Computer 2006 Sony presents Sony Reader with E-ink 2007 Kindle launches in US 2008 adobe and Sony agreed to share their technologies ( Reader and DRM ), also books for iphones come out 2009 Kindle and kindle dx offered in US, Nook too, Bookboon.com achieves 10 million downloads in one Year – now world largest publisher of FREE eBooks 2010 iPad released, Kobo ( Borders Version ) released in US

Sony Daily edition($299) Sony books, Google books, Library (lots of free books!) USB port, 7 inch screen Music play back Memory stick and sd slots Dictionay PDF and doc supported ( need word ) 2 gb, 2 week battery

Nook $259 A million books, 500,000 free titles, newspapers& magazines, Library rental Touch screen, 10 day battery Pdf’s ( not doc ) Dictionary, 6 inch screen Micro sd slot Books can be loaned to other nook users Plays mp3’s

Kindle DX $ ,000 books, newspapers magazines & blogs Not public e books supported Dictionary 4 day battery, 9.7inch screen Can read to you PDF and doc supported Need to go thru Amazon

Que Not available yet !!!!!!! Barnes and noble, a million books, 500,000 free titles, newspapers,& magazines Touch screen, USB ePub supported, 10.7 inch screen PDF & Doc Should be the best out there… when it becomes availabe!!! Suppose to do spreadsheets, Promised … no delivery available

iPad $499- $829 Leads to more eye strain if doing lots of reading LOCKED into I books, 9.7 inch screen A good all around choice if you don’t mind a closed system NO USB PORT !!!

E books compared to Printed books Advantages Availability – over 2 million Free Portability & storage, environmental costs Translation not a problem Can read to u, can display motion, make text larger& smaller, darker, dictionary Costs – device $ but books cheap Security - recover books Drawbacks Changing technology – formats and file types vary wildly Not all book available ( some authors like J.K. Rowling won’t allow ), children's picture books Aesthetic appeal, hard to give as a tangible gift Durability of machine Cost of machine Digital rights management – not all allow you to loan to a friend Except for Barnes & Nobles lend me program

My Recommendations: If money was no object my choices would be : 1.QUE 2.Sony – Daily reader 3.Nook The others would not even be considered, I am not a fan of a “Closed” system. Want the option of borrowing from library, I would like to see more textbooks, to help the bigger group the students. I have touched and played with all but the que ( kind of hard since it hasn’t been made except as a prototype!)

Enjoy your Ereader for business And use it for your pleasure !
