Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18 The Person of the Holy Spirit The Role of the Holy Spirit Fullness of the Holy Spirit Function of the Holy Spirit Fruit of the Holy Spirit

The Person of the Holy Spirit  The Holy Spirit is a person and not a power; therefore, our thought should be “How can the Holy Spirit have more of me?”  The Holy Spirit is one of three persons of the trinity and, therefore, is God! Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18

The Role of the Holy Spirit  The role of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the person and work of Jesus Christ.  The presence of the Holy Spirit allows Christ to be reproduced in us.  If something is of the Spirit, it will always point to Christ and glorify Him! Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18

Fullness of the Holy Spirit  Filled literally means “be being kept filled” and has three shades of meaning, all important to understanding this concept. 1. The idea of pressure like a sail. 2. The idea of permeation like an Alka Seltzer. 3. The idea of domination as in total control.  It is in the passive voice which means you are receiving the action from the Holy Spirit! Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18

Fruit of the Holy Spirit  What is the difference between a fruitful Christian and a non-fruitful Christian?  Answer is in John 15:1-2 Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18

John 15:1-2 (NASB) 1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.”

Fruit of the Holy Spirit  What is the difference between a fruitful Christian and a non-fruitful Christian?  Answer is in John 15: The branch must be attached to the vine. 2. There must be cultivation. 3. There must be pruning. Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18

Fruit of the Holy Spirit  Gifts of the Spirit – Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:7-16; 1 Corinthians 12 Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18

Romans 12:6-8 (NASB) 6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Ephesians 4:7-16 (NASB) 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says, “W HEN H E ASCENDED ON HIGH, H E LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, A ND H E GAVE GIFTS TO MEN.” “W HEN H E ASCENDED ON HIGH, H E LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, A ND H E GAVE GIFTS TO MEN.” 9 (Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) 11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,

12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit  Gifts of the Spirit – Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:7-16; 1 Corinthians 12  Gifts vary from passage to passage.  Each believer has at least one gift.  Gifts are for the common good.  Gifts are for the unity of the church.  Gifts are to build up the church and to equip it for service. Another Comforter - Part 3 John 14:16-18
