Summarizer After reading the long story of Oscar Wilde’s, It is not so easy to get the main point, is it? Now we provide you a short summary of “The Nightingale and The Rose ”

A nightingale overhears a student complaining that his professor's daughter will not dance with him, as he is unable to give her a red rose. The nightingale visits all the rose-trees in the garden, and one of the white roses tell her that there's a way to produce a red rose, but only if the nightingale is prepared to sing the sweetest song for the rose all night, and sacrifice her life to do so.

The nightingale carries out the ritual. The student takes the rose to the professor's daughter, but she again rejects him because another man has sent her some real jewels. The student angrily throws the rose into the gutter, returns to his study of metaphysics, and decides not to believe in true love anymore.

Illuminator We are now going to share the brief paragraph in the story “The Nightingale and The Rose ” and the reason and the reason why we chose these words

'What a silly thing Love is,' said the Student as he walked away. 'It is not half as useful as Logic, for it does not prove anything, and it is always telling one of things that are not going to happen, and making one believe things that are not true. In fact, it is quite unpractical, and, as in this age to be practical is everything, I shall go back to Philosophy and study Metaphysics.' So he returned to his room and pulled out a great dusty book, and began to read.

The passages shows that the student not only forgot about the Nightingale which is killed by the Rose but forgot the value of Nightingale’s risked life as well. The Nightingale dedicated itself, But the student show no mercy.

“I think that love couldn’t define with logic. Our minds are quite complicated, and everything might change our considerations, so be more practical is also a necessity. But if we are too practical, it will become nothing romantic…

…In a word, to find a balance between them is important. 'I am afraid it will not go with my dress,' she answered; “and, besides, the Chamberlain's nephew has sent me some real jewels, and everybody knows that jewels cost far more than flowers.” ”Well, upon my word, you are very ”Well, upon my word, you are very ungrateful,” said the Student angrily; and he threw the rose into the street, where it fell into the gutter, and a cart-wheel went over it.

Sometimes money is worth than love, and people get lost about what the real meaning of love is,as they often treat love as something useless like dust.

Connecter Some said that brainstorming benefits you. Then connecting is rather a good way to keep you brainstorming. Let’s find out what things are associated with The story, okay?

There is something worth for us to think about in “The Nightingale and The Rose ” What is the true love? Just like the nightingale, she loves the boy's eyes and lips. She thinks the love is more precious than jewels, for it can't be purchased and weighed out. The woman the student loved said something unacceptable. She loved not precious love but the jewelry. Isn’t it sad ?

I don't think that girl in this fairy tale will be happy in the future, because she is greedy and selfish. She doesn't deserve the happiness. Moreover the boy won't own happiness, either. He thinks the love is useless and unpractical. His love is superficial, and he will never get a girl with whom he can live happily with.

Tagore said, "It is the tears of the earth that keep her smiles in bloom." Similarly, it is the pains of hers that fulfill the true love. Though money is significant, but it can’t buy anything, especially our love to others

This is the love, which is always sung by many people for thousands of years. It needs sacrifice, and it will be perfected by death as this tale tells us. "We are not suitable to each other" is often used as an excuse of parting. However, the actual reason is that there is no love between them.

At present you are suitable, but maybe in future you two will become unsuitable, for example because of the decrease of wealth or decrepit looks. Then you're going to find another one who is so-called suitable. Conflicts of many families and marriages arise therefore. We cannot emphasize love too much!

Discussion Director After reading the story “The Nightingale and The Rose ” There might be some questions that keep bothering you. Check out our Q&A … and you might have some new ideas!

Question 1: Would you help a stranger just because of finding his/her true lovers? (or an ideal and dreaming things that they seek?) Answer: Yes, I would. But before that I would check if he/she could realize what I want in the end. Therefore, it would be worth to do.

Question 2: If death could solve everything, would you use your death to solve something that is important to you? Answer: No, I wouldn’t. Since there are still many hopes in our lives, we shouldn’t let problems beat us.

Question 3: Do you think that love can be explained by logic? Answer : Maybe not. Everybody is different from each other. For example, every human beings’ brain sizes are different! Therefore, I consider that even logic still cannot explain it well.
