Sea Floor Topography

Topography- the detailed mapping or charting of the features of a relatively small area.

Off the Japanese Coast

Notice the sudden drop. What do you think it is? Look at it’s shape. It’s really deep..over 8,000 m. Did you guess a trench? Yes, it’s the Mariana Trench. The deepest place on Earth. In some places it is over 10,000 m (6.8 miles) deep.

This is the deepest part of the Mariana trench 11° 21' N, 142° 12’ E

Mid Atlantic Ridge

This is India

Look at the elevation of this peak. What do you think it is? Yes, it’s a mountain. It is over 7,000 m. At the peak it is 8,800 m (5.5 miles) above sea level. Yes, it is Mt. Everest. It could fit inside the Mariana Trench.

Staten Island Manhattan Island

Outer Banks of NC. Kitty Hawk

What state is this? What’s this?

Now lets switch to the computer and look at some places around the world. Where do YOU want to go?
