Location The winery is located in Montalcino, a small town near Siena. Montalcino is in the heart of south Tuscany, far from heavy traffic and the main industrialized areas. Created by age-old traditions and culture, which has molded the landscape and fundamentally shaped its social-economic appearance.

History The 14 th century Palazzo and vineyards were acquired in 1975 by Giulio Consonno Some of the positive contributions putting Montalcino on the world map are: – the introduction of the "Cru" (Montosoli) concept in 1975 – the first experiments with barriques in '79 – the production in '77 of the first Grappa from a winery – the first Futures (purchasing wine before its release) for Brunello The estate pioneered the technique of aging its IGT wines in small French oak barrels, limiting the time spent in oak to enhance each wine's personality. The property was acquired by the Angelini family in 2002

Philosophy An innovative leader, elegance, finesse, and a fruitier, richer style are the trademarks of Altesino’s wines and have earned the estate a position among the very top producers of Brunello. The company philosophy has always been to create high quality wines and this is why so much attention is devoted to every single detail, not only at each stage of production, but also to their marketing, including communications and image.

The Estate The estate overall covers approximately 200 acres. The vineyards consist of 110 acres, sub-divided into the “crus” of Altesino, Macina, Castelnuovo dell'Abate (in the district of Velona), Pianezzine and Montosoli (the latter famous for the production of extremely elegant wines). Grapes grown include Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Trebbiano and Malvasia, Vermentino, Chardonnay and Viognier.

Owner Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini A businesswoman, full of energy and passion. Entered in to the wine industry after successful careers in pharmaceuticals and film production "Elisabetta's best choice has been acquiring Altesino while leaving Claudio freedom," says Andrea Costanti, owner of Conti Costanti. "Altesino really does not need much more than pursuing the elegant style and quality that has always been its trademark."

Winemaker Claudio Basla Claudio was born in Tornaco (Piedmont). After graduating from high school, worked for a prominent company in Milan. In 1975, Claudio’s boss, Giulio Consonno, purchased the Altesino estate, and offered Claudio the opportunity to join him in the wine industry. Claudio contributed to Brunello di Montalcino’s rise to international prominence. He is credited with creating the first single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino, the renowned and much sought-after Montosoli. He was the first to use French barriques, introducing this technique in Claudio created the first “estate grappa” (made only with pomace from estate fruit) along with Master Distiller Nannoni in He organized the first Brunello futures sale in Tuscany in 1985.

Key Selling Points 1.Key Vineyards located in the top cru sites within the Brunello DOCG growing area, primarily in the northeast of the appellation. 2.Cooler vineyard sites, leading to longer hang-time for the wines and a more refined structure 3.Wines are elegant, age-worthy, fruitier and richer than competitors 4.Traditional style Brunellos 5.Innovative producer, first to introduce cru designation Brunello with Montosoli in Montosoli isa blue chip wine in the same class as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Sandrone. All are members of the limited list of wineries in the Wine Spectator’s Auction Trade. A list of only 100 wines dominated by France

Rosso di Altesino Toscana IGT 80% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Merlot The grapes are fermented in stainless steel followed by six to eight months of maturation before bottling. Inviting aromas of ripe berries and forest fruits. Incredibly supple on the palate, with excellent body and balanced structure. A perfect choice for rich, creamy pasta dishes, stuffed roasted game hens or barbecued chorizo or artisanal sausages.

Rosso di Montalcino DOC 100% Sangiovese Grosso Altesino makes this Rosso di Montalcino entirely from select Sangiovese Grosso grapes sourced from the younger vines in the Altesino and Velona estate vineyards. Offers sumptuous aromas of ripened blackberries and dark cherries. On the palate, the wine is generously well-rounded and rich with fruit-forward notes complimented by hints of leather and mesquite. Recommended with pasta smothered in meat sauces, hearty game or beef-based casseroles.

Palazzo di’Altesi Sangiovese Toscana IGT 100% Sangiovese One third of the grapes undergoes carbonic maceration and the entire batch is then fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in Allier barriques for approximately one year. Aromas of wild berries and violets with leather and smoke. On the palate, the wine is full- bodied, rich and bursting with dried red cherry flavors, framed by firm but integrated tannins. Best enjoyed with roast game and barbecued meats.

Alte d’Altesi Toscana IGT 34 % Sangiovese, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot The name of the wine refers to the fact that the classic blends are all sourced from some of the highest elevations on the estate. Aromas of dried cherry, earthiness, violets and leather. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied and perfectly structured with persistent red berry flavors. Pairs well with roast pork tenderloin, roast wild game or hearty beef casseroles.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 100% Sangiovese Grosso Hand-harvested from the Altesino, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Macina, and Pianezzine vineyards. Ample aromas of violet, wild berries, tobacco, chocolate, and vanilla. On the palate, Altesino Brunello is rich, full-bodied, and velvety. Wine of choice for rich dishes such as osso bucco, pot roasts, barbecues, and beef stew.

Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli DOCG 100% Sangiovese Grosso This small vineyard produced one of Italy's first "cru" wines. Its intense ruby red color tends towards elegant garnet with age. On the nose, it shows a complex personality with a delicious blend of black cherry, raspberry, violet, licorice, vanilla and black pepper. Extremely enticing, opulent and elegant on the palate, with a warm, long-lasting finish.

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 100% Sangiovese Grosso This riserva is produced only in the best years in very limited quantities. Brunello Riserva offers a solid, full body and excellent aging potential. Its ample and complex bouquet is reminiscent of violets, wild berries, cedar, leather, tobacco and spices. On the palate, it is austere and seductive with a perfect blend of fruit, acidity and mouth coating tannins.

Vin Santo Val d`Arbia DOC 50% Trebbiano Toscana and 50% Malvasia Vin Santo, which translates as "holy wine" in Italian, is a traditionally sweet wine from Tuscany. The fermentation and aging process happens over eight years in caratelli (small oak casks), resulting in a very special wine of incredible complexity and concentration. On the nose, it is rich and complex with hints of roasted almonds, honey and dried apricot. Its full- bodied flavors of honey and dried fruits persist long into the finish.
