2.3 Direct Variation
A linear function in the form of y=kx where k is the constant of variation
Using a table XY XY
Looking at an Equation
Solve For each direct variation, find the constant of variation. Then find the value of y when x = 6.
Using proportions Direct variation is represented by a proportion when you are not asked to solve for the constant of variation.
Examples If y = 9 when x = 12, find x when y = 15 If y = 7 when x = 16, find y when x = 4
Application If it costs me $46 to fill the tank of my SUV and I can travel 305 miles, how much would it cost me to travel 423 miles?
Application If I can travel 50 miles in 45 minutes, how long will it take me to travel 229miles? Convert your answer to hours and minutes.
