Lesson 104 – Jeremiah 1–15 The Call of Jeremiah

Jeremiah in Context What is happening historically? Who are Jeremiah’s contemporaries?

Jeremiah 1:5 What is the principle here? The word “knew” is translated from the Hebrew word “yada”, which connotes a very personal, intimate relationship. Do you think the Lord knows us as well as He did Jeremiah? What does that mean for us? How can you find out what you may have been foreordained to? – Patriarchal Blessings – Prayer, fasting – Words of the Prophets What is the difference between Predestination and Foreordination?

Foreordination “Every man who has a calling to minister to the inhabitants of the world was ordained to that very purpose in the Grand Council of heaven before this world was. I suppose I was ordained to this very office in that Grand Council” (Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, sel. Joseph Fielding Smith [1976], 365). Joseph Smith Jr. Jeremiah 1:1–10

What is Jeremiah’s reaction? Jeremiah 1:6 Who had a similar reaction in the scriptures? Have you ever had a similar response? v What is the Lord’s answer to Jeremiah? – “I am with thee to deliver thee” – “I have put my words in thy mouth” – “I have this day set thee over the nations.. to pull down… and to plant.” Plant what? Is that the same answer to us?

President Monson
