Science Tools

Magnifying lens- also called a hand lens- to make objects appear larger. Metric tape- used to measure length and is flexible to measure around objects. Microscope- uses several lenses to make objects appear much larger. Camera- helps to collect data to show change over time. Funnel- used when pouring a liquid such as water or a solid such as salt into a container.

Filter paper- separates solids from liquids. Graph paper- to make charts and graphs to display data. Timers and stopwatches- used to measure the amount of time that has passed. Sound recorder- to record information that you want to remember. Thermometer- a tool that measures temperature.

Wind sock- shows the direction the wind is blowing. Rain gauge- measures the amount of rain that has fallen. Weather vane- is used to determine wind direction. Barometer- used to measure air pressure, which can be a good indicator of weather patterns. Calculator- makes analyzing data fast and easy.

Computer- helps collect, record, and analyze data. Multimeter- measures several characteristics of electricity. Terminals- are parts of batteries or other devices to which wires are attached to form an electrical current. Anemometer- a tool that measures wind speed. Ruler- a tool used to measure how deep snow fall is.
