Max Dupain RESEARCH PROJECT

WHEN DID HE LIVE? & WHERE DID HE LIVE? Max was also known as Maxwell Spencer Dupain, that was his full name. Max Dupain lived from( ). Dupain was born in Ashfield, Sydney, his parents where Ena and George Dupain.

WHEN DID HE START PHOTOGRAPHY AND WHAT INSPIRED HIM? At 13 years of age Dupain was given his first camera, and quickly developed an avid interest in photography. Max Dupain was inspired by Man Ray’s photographs, especially his abstract works and the way Ray deals with lighting. Dupain was also influenced with Paul Cezanne (French painter) where his painting was equivalent to Man Ray’s photographs. Dupain was influenced with both these artist as they have worked with nudes like him.

WHEN DID HE GAIN GREATEST RECOGNITION FOR HIS WORK AND FOR WHAT IMAGE(S) He gained greatest recognition in (1997) after his sunbaker image. He won the Carter Memorial Prize for Productive Use of Spare Time in 1928.

WHAT STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY DID HE WORK IN? Max Dupain worked with Nude black and white style kind of images.

WHAT TYPES OF SUBJECT MATTER DID HE WORK IN? He worked in Portraiture subjects He also worked in Documentary photography.

DID HE GAIN ANY SPECIAL AWARDS? Yes he did gain a special which was the Carter Memorial Prize.
